Today's video is one that warms my heart. It's all about how to do good things in your community. We want to help you better the world and get more business because of it. So let's talk about how to be a part of a charitable organization and how to leverage that into business for your local facebook marketing agency, or any agency.
This is something that both Ben and I have used in the past, not because we were trying to get business from it, but because we have a love for helping local charities. The one thing Ben and I have always had in common are that we are both super community-minded. We just happened to notice that helping our local charities always ended up helping our business in the long run. And we wanted to share it with you.
It starts with getting your name out there. A lot of time when you go into a community, and you're wanting to be the person that does web pages, the person that does Facebook ads, or lead generation, or whatever it may be, you run into a lot of problems. A majority of those problems are that they just don't know who you are. In turn, they don't trust you. You seem like everybody else. Now, how do you get past that?
One of the ways that we moved past that was to be involved in charities. What we started to figure out was a lot of our clients that we were getting were coming from charities. Let me give you an example that both Ben and I used.
We were both very active in the local Lions Club and every year that club would have a TV action. Both of us would volunteer our time going out to local businesses asking for donations on behalf of the Lions Club for that auction. What a great way to get an introduction to a business owner without selling them anything. You go in as someone who is there to help the community. We would also take that a step further and we would write facebook posts and share them about the auction. You could take it even a step further and run facebook ads for that auction from your business account.

The idea is to get super involved with the community organizations and then you are put into positions to go talk to businesses about donating or anything that the charity may have going on. It gives you permission to meet business owners. If the charity has an event going on, volunteer to help with the event.
Take that a step further and join the local chamber of commerce and get involved with all of the events that they host. I was at every single ribbon cutting that they had. Not because I thought those businesses would use my services, but because you never know who you will meet at those ribbon cuttings who could/would use your services. It's all about meeting people and helping people!
What will end up happening is these boards for these charitable organizations and the officers of the civic organizations, they are always business owners, people that are your dream clients for what you want to do with your agency. You will expose yourself to them through the charity, they see that you are more than just out for yourself, you are out for the community. The easy conversation that always comes up is “what do you do?” And that opens the door to talk about your business. Now, this may not lead to immediate business, but that is not what you're in it for. You are setting the stage for them to come to you and say, “you talked about what you do……. can you give me some more information about that.” You become their guy because you were in the trenches together, you know, raising money food a good cause, or helping to do something for the community.

The big takeaway point here is to become a member of your chamber of commerce. Become a part of a civic organization. It literally takes an hour or two out of your month, usually, to be a part of these things. Doing that will set you up to be in a position to where you get to talk about what you do. But, they are not only looking for you to come in and help them, they're looking for you to help their friends too, and you start to get a ton of referrals. If you want more business from your local community, be a part of their charity stuff.
